Liptov Events 2026: Kamil's Tips and What's On Until January

Saturday 10 October: two events Kamil recommends

Kamil, the owner of our cabin, keeps an eye on what is going on in Liptov, and for this Saturday he recommends two things: a celebration of Olympic champions in Liptovský Mikuláš at lunchtime, and an Oktoberfest by Liptovská Mara in the late afternoon. Both are free and within 15 minutes of the cabin by car, so you can easily do both in one day.

Below Kamil’s tips you will find a calendar of more events until January. We will add to this page whenever Kamil recommends something new.

Olympic champions statue unveiled at 13:00

Liptovský Mikuláš calls itself the town of Olympic champions. Several Olympians are connected with it, for example the canoe slalom paddlers Michal Martikán, Elena Kaliská and Jakub Grigar and the skier Petra Vlhová. A civic association is building a park for them together with the town, and its first big piece is a statue group symbolising the sports in which athletes from Mikuláš have won Olympic success.

On Saturday 10 October 2026 at 13:00 the statue will be unveiled in the Park of Olympic Champions (Park olympijských víťazov). The event is organised by the town and admission is free. The programme:

• unveiling of the statue,
• meeting the Olympians,
• a public auction of their sports memorabilia,
• an autograph session,
• music.

The town is running the auction together with the Liptov Community Foundation (Komunitná nadácia Liptov). Part of the proceeds will go to youth sport in the town and part to finishing the park. According to the event announcements, Petra Vlhová and Jakub Grigar are also expected to be there.

The park is by Garbiarska Street, at a spot that links the town centre, the pedestrian zone, the transport hub and a shopping centre. A walk of fame, places to relax, a small Olympic museum and a café will be added later. From our cabin it is 7.2 km, about 11 minutes by car.

Oktoberfest at Maladinovo from 16:00

Maladinovo is a resort on the shore of Liptovská Mara right next to Tatralandia, with the Bernard Pub restaurant. On Saturday 10 October 2026 it is holding an Oktoberfest-style evening from 16:00, with free entry.

The programme, according to the poster:

• 17:00 official opening,
• 17:30 beer barrel contest against the clock,
• 18:30 throwing beer mats at a target,
• 19:30 beer stein holding,
• 20:30 beer quiz.

There are Oktoberfest-themed prizes for the contests, and the special Bernard Fest Beer will be on tap. If you want to stay the whole weekend, Maladinovo also sells an Oktoberfest stay package for 9 to 11 October.

From Maladinovo it is 2.8 km to the cabin, about 5 minutes by car. Slovakia has zero tolerance for alcohol for drivers, so agree in advance who is driving, or call a taxi.

How to fit both events into one day

1. At 13:00, the statue unveiling in the Park of Olympic Champions in Liptovský Mikuláš.
2. A late lunch nearby on Garbiarska Street. Kamil likes going to Route 66 there, which is open from 11:00 until midnight on Saturdays.
3. In the afternoon, back to Liptovská Mara; with children, for example, to Tatralandia, which is right next to Maladinovo.
4. From 16:00, Oktoberfest at Maladinovo.

More events until January

Besides Kamil’s tips, we have gone through the official calendars of the town of Liptovský Mikuláš, Visit Liptov, Jasná, Tatralandia, Bešeňová and the Pribylina open-air museum, and picked out the events that are worth it for visitors too. Times and prices are as published by the organisers on 9 October 2026, so it is best to check them before you go.

October

• Sunday 11 October, 14:00 - 17:00: Kite Festival (Šarkaniáda) in the Háj-Nicovô forest park in Liptovský Mikuláš. A mass kite race and craft workshops for children, and you can buy a kite on the spot.
• 17 - 24 October: Nights of Light (Noci svetla) in the pedestrian zone of Liptovský Mikuláš, part of the celebrations of the town’s 740th anniversary. 16 light installations, Monday to Thursday from 18:00 to 22:00 and Friday to Sunday until midnight, free entry. It opens on 17 October at 18:00 at the Metamorfózy fountain with a light and dance show. On 17 and 23 October the Janko Kráľ Museum is open until 20:00.
• Saturday 17 October: Ružomberské schody, a mountain bike race on the town stairs on Námestie Š. N. Hýroša in Ružomberok. Children start at 11:00, the main race at 12:30.
• Saturday 17 October, 10:00 - 19:00: the retro games exhibition Na čom sa hrával tvoj tatko? (What did your dad play on?) at Marina Liptov in Bobrovník, right by Mara. You can try out the old consoles; adults pay €5, children up to 12 nothing.
• Saturday 24 October, 17:00 - 22:00: National Wine Salon (Národný salón vín) at Humno Demänová, with the 100 best Slovak wines. Entry is free and tastings are paid for with tokens. This one is more for adults.
• Sunday 25 October, 11:00 - 17:00: Liptov Bryndza Festival (Slávnosti liptovskej bryndze) on Námestie osloboditeľov in Liptovský Mikuláš, free. Folk music and dance, sheep shearing, the blessing of the bryndza and, at 14:30, a demonstration of how Liptov bryndza, the local soft sheep’s cheese, is made, with a tasting.
• 29 October - 1 November: Halloween at the water parks. Tatralandia has entertainment, a costume contest and, on 31 October from 20:00, the Tropical Night evening swim for €15 online and €19 at the ticket desk, with children under 6 free. Bešeňová has a different programme every day, roughly from 13:00 to 17:00, with a regular ticket.
• Saturday 31 October, 16:30 - 21:00: Halloween at Jasná. Craft workshops for children in the Rotunda on Chopok and evening rides at Slide Park Priehyba, with an evening cable car ticket from gopass.travel.

November

• 6 - 8 November: Nositelia tradícií (Bearers of Traditions), a national competition of folk groups at the House of Culture in Liptovský Mikuláš, with voluntary admission.
• 11 - 15 November: Festival PAN, an international mime festival at the House of Culture in Liptovský Mikuláš. On Sunday 15 November there is a performance for families.
• 27 - 28 November: Winter Jasná Opening. Jasná opens the 2026/27 ski season, and on the Saturday also the new piste no. 15 Rodinná at Lúčky. December and New Year’s Eve

• Sunday 27 December: Christmas in Liptov (Vianoce na Liptove) at the Pribylina open-air museum, with a Christmas market, carols, old customs and craft workshops.
• Thursday 31 December: New Year’s Eve. Tatralandia and Bešeňová both have a programme from 18:00 to 3:00 with music and a midnight show, and at Jasná KALI and Peter Pann play from 21:00. As of 9 October 2026, the town had not yet published its Christmas markets in Liptovský Mikuláš, its St Nicholas events or its town New Year’s Eve celebration. We will add them once they are announced.

January 2027

• 23 - 24 January 2027: the Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup at Jasná, with the giant slalom on Saturday and the slalom on Sunday. Everything about tickets and getting there is in our guide to the World Cup at Jasná 2027.

Staying by Mara

If you are coming to the events from further away, there is no need to rush home in the evening. Our log cabin in Liptovský Trnovec is 2.8 km from Maladinovo and 50 metres from Liptovská Mara. It sleeps 8 to 10 and has a fireplace and an infrared sauna. You will find available dates on our contact and booking page.
