Where to Stay for Skiing at Jasná: Valley, Town or Lake?

Three areas to choose from

If you are skiing at Jasná, on the north side of Chopok, you will usually choose between three areas:

• right in Jasná and the Demänovská dolina valley - closest to the lifts,
• in Liptovský Mikuláš - the town you drive through on your way into the valley anyway,
• by Liptovská Mara lake (Liptovský Trnovec, Bešeňová, Liptovská Sielnica) - by the water, 25 minutes by car from Jasná.

What decides it is mainly how long you want to travel in the morning, what you will do on days off skiing and whether you are coming on your own, with children or as a bigger group. When you search for “Jasná” on booking sites, it is mostly the first area that comes up. Yet Mikuláš and the lake are only a few minutes’ drive further from the lifts.

Demänovská dolina: closest to the lifts

Staying right in Jasná or higher up in the Demänovská dolina valley puts you closest to the slopes. You don’t need to think about the drive in the morning, and sometimes you can walk to the lift.

One thing to bear in mind: parking up in the valley is limited. At weekends and on public holidays the car parks fill up early in the morning. There is more about car parks and ski pass prices in our guide to skiing at Jasná.

Liptovský Mikuláš: the town on the way

Liptovský Mikuláš lies at the mouth of the Demänovská dolina valley. It has the most shops, restaurants and services, and museums for a day off skiing.

From our cabin it is 7 km to Mikuláš. The road to Jasná runs past the town, so staying in Mikuláš puts you roughly those 7 km closer to the lifts.

Liptovská Mara: 25 minutes from Jasná, by the water and near Tatralandia

Bosorka Zrub stands in Liptovský Trnovec on the north shore of Liptovská Mara. It is 21 km to Jasná (Chopok North), about 25 minutes by car.

What you get for those 25 minutes:

• Peace and quiet away from the resort. Enclosed grounds with wooden houses on the lakeshore, and in the morning a view of the Low Tatras, where you will be skiing.
• Tatralandia 2.5 km from the house. The indoor Tropical Paradise and the thermal pools are open all year, so a day off skiing or a windy day is sorted in 5 minutes by car. Prices and opening hours are in our guide to Tatralandia prices.
• A whole house for your group. The cabin sleeps 8, at most 10 people: 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a long table, a fireplace with free firewood and an infrared sauna for the evening after skiing. More on The Cabin page.
• Two cars at the house. Parking for 2 cars inside the enclosed grounds.

Getting to Jasná in the morning without parking stress

From the cabin you have three options:

1. Drive all the way up - 21 km, about 25 minutes. At weekends, arrive early, as the car parks by the lifts fill up.
2. Drive to the Pavčina Lehota park-and-ride (P5) - about 15 minutes from the cabin. It has 450 spaces and is free, and according to the resort a shuttle bus ran from there to Lúčky, Záhradky and Biela Púť in winter 2025/26. The most relaxed option on a Saturday morning.
3. Take the Ski & Aqua bus - the stop is 500 m from the cabin (a 10-minute walk). Anyone who shows a valid ski pass or the Liptov Region Card rides for free. The journey takes over 40 minutes. In winter 2025/26 the bus ran from 26 December 2025 to 8 March 2026.

In winter 2025/26 there was evening skiing at Jasná every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 18:00 to 21:00. Parking at Biela Púť and Otupné was free at those times, and after evening skiing you are back at the cabin in 25 minutes.

Who staying by the lake suits

• Two families or a bigger group who want to stay together in one house rather than in several rooms.
• Families with children where not everyone skis every day. While some are on the slopes, the others can spend the day at Tatralandia, and children who are just starting can learn at smaller ski areas closer to the cabin - see our guide to Liptov with kids.
• Longer stays. Over a week it pays to mix Jasná with cross-country skiing, caves and the water park. A plan for the whole week is in our Liptov itinerary for a weekend, 5 or 7 days.

If you want to step out of the door straight onto the lift, you are better off staying right in Jasná. If 25 minutes in the car doesn’t bother you, by the lake you get more peace and more space.

What to combine it with

On the way to Jasná you pass the Demänovská Cave of Liberty (Demänovská jaskyňa slobody), a good plan for a day with poor visibility. The nearest cross-country ski trails are in Pavčina Lehota and Liptovský Ján. In January 2027 Jasná hosts the women’s World Cup - see the programme and tickets.
